Forensic Odontology - An overview and implications in a private practice setting - 2 CE

Thomas A. Gromling DDS

 

This presentation will look at the different aspects of forensic odontology from mass disasters and identifications to bite marks, abuse, age estimation, and court testimony.

 
Dr. Gromling graduated with a DDS degree from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in 1979 and has been in private practice dentistry since 1980 in Stephens City VA.  He was awarded a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry 2008; a
Certificate in Forensic Odontology from the Center for Education and Research in Forensics, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas 2010 and has successfully completed ABFO workshops in expert witness testimony, age estimation and identification. Dr. Gromling is also a member of the ADA, VDA and currently serves as the Dental Director for the Dental Clinic of the Northern Shenandoah Valley.

Understanding salivary diagnostics and molecular testing in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal infections is the “new standard of care” in soft tissue management.  Clinical lab tests are essential tools and used routinely in medical models to provide important diagnostic information to health care providers.  Now, clinical laboratory testing is available for dental professionals.   This course is designed to educate you on the importance of implementing certified clinical laboratory testing for Oral Medicine.

 


Diana Corbin has been a practicing Dental Hygienist in Virginia for 30 years.  Diana has clinical work experience in Periodontics, Pedodontics, Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry as well as Public Health Dentistry. She volunteers as the administrator and coordinator intake person who manages patient care for the Culpeper Adult Free Dental Clinic.  Diana was the 2007 Sunstar Butler RDH Award of Distinction Recipient.   She is a member of ADHA, VDHA and speaks on the following topics:  Salivary Diagnostics, HPV and Oral Cancer and Organ and Tissue Donation.
